Alongside You is helping to create a close-knit community.

In the past, the Ladner Village counselling service has collected items for the Union Gospel Mission’s Women’s Shelter, but after a news story by the Optimist reported that 600 individuals were turned away from Azure House, Delta’s transition house for women and children fleeing violence, Alongside You wanted to act.

Creative arts director Meg Neufeld’s goal is to continue to provide opportunities and events where people of all different ages, abilities and diagnoses can come together and support those in need.

To that end, members of the community donated over 180 handmade knitted scarves, hats, mittens, slippers, baby blankets, cozy socks and grocery gift cards

“Many thanks to the volunteers who so loving wrapped and tagged each item for this year’s donation,” said Neufeld, who also thanked those who made the donations.

Alongside You collects knitted donations, new socks and grocery cards all year. Call Neufeld to find out more at 604-283-7827 (ext. 703) or email: meg@alongsideyou.ca.
