Big night for Ladner defender in Warriors win

Sam Clare certainly made the most of his return to the Vancouver Warriors’ line-up.

The 26-year-old rookie defender from Ladner scored his first-ever National Lacrosse League goal and also added an assist in Vancouver’s 7-5 win over the Colorado Mammoth last Friday night at Rogers Arena.

Clare scooped up a loose ball and raced a way in transition before scoring at the 5:15 mark of the opening quarter. He also helped set up Mitch Jones’ first of two goals and was credited with four loose balls. He was named the third star and also the Warriors' Defender of the Game.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Warriors who return to action Feb. 1 at New England.

Elsewhere around the league, former Delta Islander standout Chase Fraser had a hat trick and one assist to lead the Buffalo Bandits to a 10-8 win over the Toronto Rock. The 24-year-old now has 10 points and six goals in just two games. He was a big part of the Islanders’ run to their first-ever B.C. Junior “A” Lacrosse League championship in 2016.
