Members of a North Delta mosque are inviting their neighbours over for a visit on Saturday. An Ahmadi spokesperson said the “Meet Your Muslim Neighbours” open house at the Baitur Rahman house of worship is meant to promote civic engagement and encourage people to vote in the upcoming federal election.
“The event will highlight the teachings of Islam as it relates to voting, separating mosque and state, and the sacred trust that is passed onto the candidates,” said Rizwan Peerzada. “The event will also focus on core values of Canadian society of pluralism, tolerance, and multi-culturalism; the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at organizes such events to showcase how these core Canadian values are synonymous with Islamic values.”
Ahmadiyya is a revivalist sect of Islam that was founded in India in the late 19th century and teaches that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835–1908) was a prophet, while most Muslims believe Mohammed was the last messenger of God. The faith, whose motto is “love for all and hatred for none,” now spans 210 countries with membership in the millions.
Believers and non-believers alike are welcome to stop by the Baitur Rahman mosque at 9570 River Road from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
