Delta off-ramp to close

The existing Highway 91 northbound off-ramp to Nordel Way eastbound will be closed and traffic diverted.

Part the of province’s Highway 91/17 Upgrade Project, traffic will be diverted to the existing traffic signal on Nordel Way at the Alex Fraser onramp.

According to Delta’s engineering department, to reduce queuing and improve traffic operation, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be providing dual northbound left turn lanes from Nordel Way to the Alex Fraser on-ramp.

A traffic analysis for the detour has been completed by the ministry, the department notes, adding that the analysis indicates the level of service for the northbound left turn is expected to improve slightly with the change from a single left turn lane to new dual left turn lanes.

With traffic signal timing optimization, the ministry anticipates that the queue on Nordel Way turning right to head to the Alex Fraser Bridge will be similar to the existing flow.

The engineering department also notes construction has begun in preparation of the detour, including shoulder widening for the new off-ramp, street light relocations and additional signal pole installations. The ministry anticipates the detour will begin in mid-July to early August and be in place between 12 and 24 months.

Traffic notifications will also be advertised via Drive BC, traffic media, on the ministry's webpage, by direct mail to impacted property owners, email to stakeholders and by employing message signs in the area.
