A Delta police officer was in the right place at the right time to help a young cyclist in need Tuesday night.

“Most kids don’t get through childhood without at least one nasty fall from their bike. Last night our officer was in the right place at the right time when he happened upon a father and son out biking in North Delta, close to Scott Road. The boy had fallen off his bike on the railway tracks and was a bit banged up,” said DPD on their Facebook page. “Fortunately we keep first aid supplies in our police vehicles, and the antiseptic and Bandaids came in handy. While a trip to the hospital wasn’t required, the boy’s injury made it too hard to bike home. So our officer transported him home in style in one of our SUVs.”

DPD added that a member of the public who happened upon the incident wrote into say that it looked like the officer handcuffed the boy’s bike to the front of the cruiser to keep it secure. Have to admit we don’t think that one is covered off in training.

“We wanted to share that it was so nice to see the officer take a little time to make sure everyone involved got home safe - especially when the accident happened on such a busy road,” she wrote. “We can just imagine what mom thought seeing a police cruiser roll up with her son in the car!”
