Interior teams sweep titles at Jardine Showcase

Thompson Blazers and North Zone take top honours in 16-team tournament

Okanagan teams took top honours at South Delta Minor Hockey Association’s 26th annual Tim Jardine Memorial Bantam Midget Showcase.

Thompson Blazers captured the Bantam Division with a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Thunderbirds, while the North Zone (Vernon/Salmon Arm/Sicamous) Kings trimmed the Trackers Hockey Club from Fort St. John 2-1 to capture the Midget Division title.

The 16-team tournament — eight in each division — concluded with the medal games on Monday at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

The host Bantam A1 Storm made a strong run before falling 4-2 to the Blazers in the semi-finals.

South Delta finished second in its pool group with a 2-1-0 record thanks to wins over West Kootenay (5-4) and Campbell River (3-2). The Storm concluded preliminary play with 7-3 setback to North Zone Kings and would also fall to them in the bronze medal game, 9-3.

On the Midget side, the Storm also earned second place in pool play with a 1-02 record — defeating Wenatchee 6-1 and battling Fernie Academy and North Zone to 4-4 and 5-5 ties respectively. The locals fell out of title contention with a 4-1 defeat to the Ridge Meadows Rustlers.
