The Draney Residence had fallen into disrepair and is in poor condition, but it will be restored and used as a single-family home again.

An old house on Ladner Trunk Road has been saved from the wrecking ball.

Construction is underway on a new residential project at 5454 Ladner Trunk Rd. which involves the subdivision of the lot into two parcels and construction of four townhouses on one of them.

The historic Draney Residence is being moved to the other lot on the site.

The house was constructed in 1927 and is listed in the Delta Urban Heritage Inventory.

The house is an example of an arts and crafts home in the English Cottage style and has distinctive features typical of the era.

Thomas Moser with Nordic Projects Ltd. told the Optimist they plan to restore the house to its former glory and receive heritage designation from the B.C. Government.

The renovation and restoration of the residence as a single-family dwelling is consistent with the Ladner Area Plan policies to encourage heritage conservation, compatible housing design and infill housing, according to Delta’s planning department.

The Draney Residence will be placed on the Delta Heritage Register

Adopted in 1999, the register is an official registry of sites of heritage significance and provides a greater level of long-term certainty for older structures than those just on the heritage inventory.

Delta council approved the city's latest Heritage Strategy three years ago and the Heritage Advisory Commission is currently undertaking a heritage inventory review.
