More roadwork is coming for Ladner Trunk Road in East Delta.

Council this week approved a contract for over $1 million for the ongoing improvements from 64th Street to 72nd Street.

According to the engineering department, the contract consists of intersection upgrades at Ladner Trunk and 66th Street, which includes the extension of two culverts, new concrete curb and gutter, new sidewalk, a new concrete passenger landing pad, installation of a special crosswalk, new streetlights and the installation of two advertisement bus shelters.

The contract also includes milling and paving of Lander Trunk from 64th to 72nd streets.

The city’s preliminary schedule would see the project starting in early August and be substantially complete by early November.

The project is part of the city’s Roadway Rehabilitation Program which focuses on renewing and enhancing pavement on all roadways.

Timely maintenance and re-surfacing of roadways in the most cost effective manner will result in a significant extension in the life of a road and avoid the need for more costly reconstruction, the engineering department notes.

The department also notes many of Delta's roadways have reached a critical point in their service life and require rehabilitation to improve the pavement condition and the roadway structural integrity.
