The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:

May 18, 2:20 a.m., 11000-block of 72nd Avenue: Police responded to multiple calls of mischief in progress in the area. Investigation revealed a large group of males attended a residence demanding to speak to the homeowners. When the homeowner refused to speak to the large group, they became aggravated and smashed several house windows and multiple vehicles that were parked in the driveway. The suspects fled the scene. Photos and audio statements were obtained and police are pursuing other investigative avenues as well.

May 18, 7:45 a.m., 10500-block of Nordel Way: While travelling westbound on Nordel Way, a Delta police officer witnessed a vehicle approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued past the officer, and the radar locked the vehicle speed at 105 km/h. When police advised the driver the speed limit is 60 km/h, the driver stated she was speeding because she was late for work. Unfortunately, 45 km/h above the posted speed limited is considered excessive speeding. The driver was served a violation ticket and her vehicle was towed.

May 18, 10:59 a.m., 8000-block of 116A Street: Complainant reported workers cutting down trees despite bylaw stating no work is to be done on holidays. On attendance to the residence, police spoke with the homeowner who advised that bylaws had just left, and issued him a bylaw ticket. Workers packed up while police were on scene.

May 18, 8:19 p.m., 11000-block of Cory Drive: Caller reported three males openly drinking alcohol near the children’s play area of a nearby park, with one male urinating against a tree. Upon police arrival, multiple males were observed playing baseball in the park – no alcohol was observed.

May 20, 2:06 p.m., Alex Fraser Bridge: While traveling northbound on the Alex Fraser Bridge, a vehicle sped by Delta officer at a high rate of speed. Front radar locked the speed at 130 km/h in the posted 70 km/h zone. The driver was served an excessive speed violation ticket, and his vehicle was towed.

May 22, 8:13 p.m., 7700-block of 112th Street: While conducting proactive patrols, police observed a vehicle fail to signal, and initiated a traffic stop to confirm driver sobriety. Police noted a distinct odour of liquor emanating from the driver’s breath, along with an admission of consumption. After numerous attempts, the driver failed to provide a breath sample. The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and his vehicle was towed. A reminder that refusal to provide a breath sample results in an automatic fail.

May 23, 4:10 p.m., 8400-block of 120th Street: Police observed vehicle abruptly reverse into traffic from a residence. Query of the plate revealed the registered owner was prohibited from driving. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver (who was the registered owner) was issued an appearance notice to attend provincial court. The vehicle was towed.
