The campaign to fund the West Vancouver Place for Sport is closer to the finish line thanks to a $2-million commitment by the District of West Vancouver and its accompanying $500,000 matching grant program, which ends Dec. 31. Organizers held an evening of celebration Nov. 26 at Ambleside’s Ancora restaurant to celebrate fundraising successes to date, as well as to give supporters a project update and to encourage further donations towards the replacement of West Van’s only running track, now nearly 70 years old. The reception, hosted by developer and major donor Onni, was MC’d by project committee member Jo-Ann Wood.  The planned $4.9-million facility at West Vancouver Secondary will be for school and community use, and accommodate track and field, soccer, lacrosse, walking and running for all ages, wheelchair sports and various competitive events.
