God’s Lake, a piece of documentary theatre, is showing at Presentation House Theatre tonight through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Through a series of powerful monologues, taken verbatim from the playwright’s interviews with community members of Gods Lake Narrows in Manitoba, the play explores the strength and resilience of people living in a remote community following terrible tragedy. Tickets: $18-$30

Vocal wonder Steve Maddock returns to Jazz Vespers at St. Andrew’s United Church in North Vancouver on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Maddock is joined by Sharon Minemoto (pianist), André Lachance (bass), and Craig Scott (drums).

Grouse Mountain Resort is set for 24 Hours of Winter this weekend, with special activities such as all-night skiing, snowboarding and ice skating, snowshoe tours, a torch parade, and more scheduled for the event, which runs starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday and goes until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The majority of businesses in Edgemont Village have voluntarily agreed to ditch single-use plastic bags by March 1. A launch event for the initiative is set for tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Highlands United Church in North Vancouver, featuring a short documentary film screening, expert speakers and wine and hors d’oeuvres, with proceeds going to helping Edgemont businesses move away from offering plastic bags.
