Carson Graham wins big in Buchanan Bowl

The Carson Graham Eagles won big in the annual Buchanan Bowl against the Handsworth Royals Saturday with a balanced, sustained attack pushing them to a 55-2 victory.

Four players found the endzone in the win for the Eagles, led by running back Darius Andrade who scored three touchdowns while rushing 10 times for 67 yards. Trent skill rushed eight times for 54 yards and a touchdown while Jake Oseen added a rushing touchdown of four yards.

The Eagles also took flight, with receiver Kevean Pashandi leading the air attack by hauling in eight catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Lucas Granger completed 17 of his 23 throws for 289 yards, including the two touchdown passes to Pashandi, while also doing damage with his legs, rushing four times for 50 yards.

The scoring barrage was capped off by a second touchdown from Oseen, who intercepted a pass – one of three picks on the day for Oseen – and returned it nearly the length of the field for a touchdown. Pashandi also recorded an interception along with six tackles on defence while Mitchell Seiler led the defence with 10 tackles, followed by Adam Usher with seven.

Robert Lutman led the Royals attack with 21 rushes for 128 yards, while Justin Lefevre caught four passes from quarterback Brett Birch-Jones for 108 yards.

The Eagles will face a tough test on Saturday when they go on the road to face South Delta. Handsworth will have a chance to get back into the win column on Friday when they host Belmont in a 1 p.m. kickoff.    

In other North Shore football action, the AA Argyle Pipers scored a 28-0 shutout win over the AAA West Vancouver Highlanders Saturday in West Van. Argyle will be back on the road Friday, travelling to Surrey to take on Holy Cross for their first regular season game. West Vancouver will also kick off their regular season schedule Friday with a 2 p.m. game against Nanaimo District.

The Windsor Dukes got into the win column Friday with a 28-6 victory over Okanagan Mission at home. The Dukes will host another exhibition match this Friday when they welcome Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat for a 3:45 p.m. kickoff.
