Upwards of 60 businesses in the Edgemont Village neighbourhood have committed to voluntarily stop using single-use plastic bags at their storefronts come March 1.

The initiative was spurred by Ocean Ambassadors Canada, with support from the local business association, in an effort to combat the scourge of plastic garbage in oceans.

With a launch event for the initiative slated for tonight at Highlands United Church from 7 to 9 p.m., we opted to ask some more business owners and managers why they decided to make the switch.
