Dear editor:
Re: Far From the Madding Beach Crowds; North Shore Rivers Offer Quiet Alternative to English Bay, Aug. 30.
Grant Lawrence’s recently published article reminded me of the following: there used to be rivers and streams far and wide when I moved to the North Shore approximately 10 years ago.
Capilano River was once a mighty rushing river of force, north and south of Marine Drive, west of Lions Gate Bridge; Mosquito Creek was high and flowed full north and south of Marine Drive, just east of Fell Avenue; a small creek ran northwest of London Drugs store on the northeast corner of Lonsdale and 21st Street, and the list goes on.
When I think about this, I am concerned about the next 10 years or even less. Will the rivers and creek beds run completely dry, especially as I see construction workers removing trees in the area that covered some of these creeks?
