Dear editor:

Re: Real New Year Starts with a Writ Being Dropped, Sept. 13 The North Side column by Paul Sullivan.

It should be known that Mr. Sullivan deliberately misrepresented my position. To be clear, I said that: “We’re here to help refugees who are seriously in peril – not ones who are walking across the border from one of the wealthiest countries in the world.”

When it comes to Canada admitting refugees, we should focus on those who are truly at risk – the last time I checked, New York state was not a war zone. The tens of thousands of illegal border crossers who have come to Canada from the U.S. since [Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau’s misleading tweet that we will accept them, have cost the Canadian taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars and have taken much needed resources away from those who truly need them.

As a result, those legitimate refugees, who are languishing in squalid conditions in camps, must wait longer to be processed. This is intolerable and I will continue to stand up for those refugees who truly need our help.

I also note, that Mr. Sullivan’s demeaning comment about North Shore conservatives, a large number of your readers, does your paper and our community a great disservice.
