Ten finalists of the 25th Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant will make their first official grand entrance at Fortune Terrace restaurant in Richmond on Oct. 31.

During the past few months, the 10 finalists have been undergoing a specially designed training program offered by Fairchild Television, a Richmond-based company that organizes the contest.

According to Vivien Louie, manager of promotions and special projects with Fairchild Television, these 10 women will showcase their talents, confidence and charm on the stage of the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2019 Final on Dec. 4.

Thousands of women have competed for the title in the past, and the winner will be introduced to the acting industry in Asia, said Louie, adding that a few previous winners have embarked on a professional acting career in Hong Kong and China.

Other contestants who haven’t won in the past have gone on to success in other professions, Louie explained.

“I tell people this isn’t just a competition or a show; it’s a training camp for personal growth,” Louie said. “Girls have not only transformed their appearance but also developed other skills, including public speaking and building up confidence.

“No matter which industry they are going to tackle, I believe they can adapt the skills they learned from us to their life and make changes to the local society.”

The competition is geared toward people of Chinese descent.

Louie pointed out that participants don’t need to be a hundred percent Chinese. And the show also plays a vital role in the local Chinese community by advocating for a healthier and more positive lifestyle.

“We hope to encourage more females to be confident and believe in themselves,” said Louie.

Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2019 Final will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Dec. 4.

As part of their annual tradition, there will be a fundraising aspect. This year, money will be raised for surface-guided radiation therapy, which is a type of cancer therapy.
