The new fitness centre at the Minoru Centre for Active Living will be free to the public this Saturday (Jan. 11) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The 8,500-square-foot fitness centre, located on the second floor of the facility, has cardio, strength and stretching equipment.

There will be orientations, classes and tours throughout the day, but people can just try out the new equipment or find out about classes and programs offered at the new fitness centre, for example, core conditioning, dance and tone and yoga.

The facility also includes a 1,900-square-foot fitness studio for classes. Part of the open house will be six fitness classes, including Power Fit at 10:45 a.m. and Synry Circuit at 5:30 p.m.

There will be 30-minute group fitness Try-It classes every half hour between noon and 6 p.m. and tours of the facility throughout the day.

The Minoru Centre for Active Living Fitness Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday and statutory holidays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Admission is $5.90 for youth (13-18), $7.25 for adults (19-54) and $5.90 for seniors 55 and older.

The fitness centre opened on Jan. 1 – its opening was delayed because its entrance is connected to the aquatic centre, which remains closed due to a crack in one of the pools.

Details about the open house as well as programs, fees and services offered at the Minoru Centre for Active Living can be found at www.minorucentre.ca or by calling 604-233-6225.
