A round futuristic-looking bike storage– with room for 34 bikes – has appeared at the Minoru Centre for Active Living, but it is as yet unused as the centre remains closed due to COVID-19.

The city bought the bike storage unit, called the MAZDome, for $127,500 – the actual value was purportedly $225,000 – and it was built by a Metro Vancouver-based company, Mazdis.

It includes storage space for accessories and has protection from theft and vandalism.

The bike storage unit is located in the parking lot on the west side of the centre.

Use of the bike storage was delayed first because of the reconstruction of one of the pools in the facility’s still unopened aquatic centre and then because of the pandemic.

There is no word when the Minoru Centre for Active Living will re-open, although the Minoru Seniors Society is selling meals for $7 a piece daily for all ages (entry from the west-side parking lot).
