A Richmond resident spent $300 on a face mask to donate to the Richmond Christmas Fund.

It was only one of many “heartwarming gestures” witnessed by City of Richmond councillor Chak Au at last Sunday morning’s fundraising event that raised $2,580 within two hours.

Au, along with two other Richmondites, ran a stand in front of a local restaurant on Aug. 9 to sell masks. And all funds raised through the event are going to the Richmond Christmas Fund, helping low-income families to celebrate the holidays each year.

“We brought 100 masks in total and they were all sold out within two hours. One local restaurant owner even bought 10 masks from us,” said Au.

“Any amount of donation was welcome and one person donated $100 for one mask. We were overwhelmed with love and support.”
