In celebration of the 140th anniversary of the City of Richmond, two Richmond-based non-profit organizations are calling for the nomination of individuals to be recognized for their community contribution.
The Canadian Alliance of Chinese Association (CACA) and North America Artists Association (NAAA) are planning to host a commemoration gala Dec. 15 where they will give out a series of awards to individuals and organizations who have made tremendous contributions to the city, according to Brain Zhang, chairman of NAAA.
“Our organization members have lived in Richmond for a long time, and we have witnessed rapid economic growth and human development of the city,” said Zhang. “Without hard work from locals, the city transformation won’t be that successful.”
The award categories include ethnic harmony, education service and outstanding achievement, and are open to Richmond residents who have shown leadership in those fields.
“The intent is to create a sense of pride for people who live in our community. We hope to see more Richmondites give back to society in the future.”
Other award categories include urban development, community service, business and commercial promotion and public welfare.
Nominators are asked to email [email protected], providing their candidate’s name, position and an explanation as to why they deserve the award.
The winners will be announced at the gala on Dec. 15 at the River Rock Casino Theatre.
