A Richmond-based martial arts and life skills centre is hosting a free bullying prevention workshop later this month.

Sirota's Alchymy in Steveston is organizing the workshop and is opening it up to the entire community on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Chatham Street centre is billing it as a “parent and child, hands-on session,” providing everyone the “necessary tools to address bullies and unhealthy situations.”

Centre principal Master Michael Sirota said he has been offering the free workshops for many years as a way of giving back to the community and has also hosted Stranger Danger and Women's Self-Defense events.

The workshops, said Sirota, are about “making a positive difference in the lives of many.

“Although the majority of the people/families who attend are our past or current students, everyone is very welcome to attend.

“These workshops also offer our students an opportunity for their family members and friends to benefit from our programs.”

Sirota said that previous martial arts experience is not necessary and anyone interested should register as soon as possible, as space is limited.
