Wigs for Kids asks Richmondites to grow their hair

If you’re thinking about going for a haircut in the near future, you might want to think again.

That’s because Richmond-based Wigs for Kids BC is asking that you consider growing your hair as long as possible between now and Jan. 25, when they will host a cut-a-thon.

On that day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., stylists and estheticians from Collective Beauty Studio on Moncton Street in Steveston will be donating their time to cut and style hair and do gel nail manicures, with all proceeds going to Wigs for kids BC.

Haircuts are a minimum donation of $40 and gel manicures $30 and, if you collect a minimum $40 in pledges, the cut is free.

The charity will be collecting some of the cut hair to make into free wigs for kids who have lost their hair due to cancer or other serious illnesses.

They also help families financially with the costs of feeding supplies and certain cancer medications not covered by MSP.

“We are now funding the new driving program set up to drive kids and their families to and from the hospital,” Wigs for Kids’ Bev Friesen told the Richmond News via email.

“We find that this helps the families concentrate on what is important and that is getting their child healthy and not have to worry about where the money is going to come from.  With no overhead every dollar raised goes into the Wigs for Kids BC program.”

Pledge forms can be found at WigsForKidsBC.com.  Call 604-370-0276 to book your salon appointment.

On the same day across the street, the Steveston Seafood House will be hosting a brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to closing, with partial proceeds going to Wigs for Kids. Call 604-271-5252 to book your reservation.
