Local teens are invited to sit on the RCMP's national youth advisory committee (NYAC).

Successful applicants will interact with participants from across Canada and discuss important issues they face in their respective communities, states a news release.

"They share their thoughts about youth crime and victimization topics, and help shape RCMP programs and initiatives," police say.

NYAC members can also receive reference letters and volunteer hours.

Canadian residents ages 13 and 21 can apply.

Applications must be received by Sept. 11, 2020. Those who apply by July 31 will be part of the first selection round and get a better chance of being selected.
