Richmondites are invited to welcome Branscombe House’s new artist-in-residence this Thursday.

Lou Sheppard, a Canadian artist, will talk about their practice and plans for their upcoming residence and will answer any questions the community may have at the event.

During Sheppard’s residency, they will develop a vocal composition based on bird species that are at risk in the area. The score will then be sung by community members of an all-voices choir.

They will also be looking into the shifting climate and impact on bird species as part of their research at the Branscombe House.

Sheppard was raised on unceded Mi’Kmaq territory and moved from Halifax/K’jipuktuk. Their area of art focuses on audio, performance and installation, which often requires them to collaborate with musicians, visual artists and performing artists within communities.

The launch event will be held at Richmond City Hall’s council chambers on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
