Richmond and the majority of Metro Vancouver may experience potentially “damaging winds” from Sunday to Monday morning, according to Environment Canada.
The weather agency announced in a special weather statement that a strong cold front is moving through southwest B.C. and strong winds of up to 70 to 80 km/h will develop from Sunday and is expected to last through to early Monday morning.
On Sunday morning, southeast winds near 80km/h developed near coastal sections of northern Vancouver Island with the direction of winds expected to change to northwest 50 to 70km/h in the evening.
Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Island, Sunshine Coast – Gibsons to Earls Cove and communities in the mouth of Howe Sound may experience southwest winds of up to 60 km/h peaking overnight and Monday morning.
The wind will veer towards the northwest direction with a speed around 40 to 60km/h on Monday before easing off around noon.
The public is encouraged to continue to monitor for alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
