Letter: Richmond racist ranter doesn't speak for all of us

Dear Editor,

Re: “No criminal charges after racist rant in parking lot,” Richmond-News.com.

I do not know what went through the mind of the woman who hurled insults at her fellow citizen in a Richmond parking lot and who is reported to have no regrets.

I am responding to the incident because the woman assumed to be speaking for more than herself, using the first person plural “we.” However, the woman does not speak for me, my congregation, nor the people of Richmond. As a Christian, I know that my neighbour bears God’s image and Christians are called to honour and love their neighbour.

This conviction extends to seeking ways to live together in ways that honour and support each other, and that build community.
