Many charities have taken their events online during the pandemic and the annual CIBC Run for the Cure is no different.

Residents in Richmond and across Canada are encouraged to join this year’s virtual CIBC Run for the Cure on Oct. 4.

Every year, CIBC and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) collaborate to host this national event to fundraise and support those battling with breast cancer while reminding fighters that they are “not alone,” according to the CCS media release.

A live-stream of the opening ceremonies will kick-off the event at 8:30 a.m. before participants head out for their individual walk or run in their neighbourhood.

Performances will feature Canadian artists Jully Black, Barenaked Ladies, Jess Moskaluke and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.

Runners can join in on this year’s run by creating and customizing their own “virtual runner” on a mobile app or on the CIBC Run for the Cure website.

The app, according to the release, will keep of the participants’ activity on the day of the run, and the amount fundraised to unlock rewards.

“When the world stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic, breast cancer didn’t,” said the media statement, adding that more than 75-per-cent Canadians is diagnosed with breast cancer every day.

“Now more than ever, the CIBC Run for the Cure needs your support to ensure that no Canadian has to face breast cancer alone.”
