Marlins also big winners, city all-stars unveiled

McNair will be Richmond's top seed at South Fraser 2A Zone Playoffs next week

The McNair Marlins were also a big winner on the final night of the Richmond Senior Boys Basketball Championships at Hugh Boyd Secondary.

In a tournament among a tournament, the Marlins earned the city’s 2A bragging rights by rallying from a 15-point deficit for a 63-62 upset win over the host Trojans. Boyd has been a fixture in the provincial top 10 rankings all season.

That means the Marlins will be headed to Southridge Academy in South Surrey on Tuesday as the No. 2 seed for the inaugural South Fraser 2A Championships.

McNair will face fourth place Sur-Del finisher Pacific Academy in the quarter-finals. The Trojans will take on third place Burnsview while Palmer will battle Surrey Christian. Rounding out the day one match-ups is Cambie taking on Sur-Del champion and top 10 ranked Southridge.

Palmer defeated Cambie 75-61 for the No. 3 Richmond seed.

The double knockout South Fraser tournament offers three berths to the provincial 2A championships.

The city championships wrapped up with the individual all-star awards. They included:
