Montana Leonard tied for the conference lead in goals

Richmond's Montana Leonard (left) scored twice in Calgary's 4-0 win over Regina on Saturday, giving her a conference leading five goals on the season.

The University of Calgary Dinos women’s soccer team is unbeaten after 10 games and Montana Leonard is one of the key reasons why.

The Richmond midfielder fired home her team leading fourth and fifth goals of the season on Saturday in a 4-0 win over the University of Regina Cougars. Calgary then completed the road sweep with a 2-1 truimph against Saskatchewan 24 hours later to improve to 3-0-1 in Canada West Pacific Conference play and 9-0-1 overall.

Leonard also had a pair of goals earlier this month against UBC Okanagan and helped her team salvage a 1-1 draw with Thompson Rivers. The fourth-year McMath graduate is well on her way over surpassing her season best goal total of eight.

She ranks first on the conference in shots (27) and tied with Saskatchewan’s Maya Gabruch in goals.

Calgary is currently tied for top spot in the conference standings with Trinity Western. Victoria (3-1-0) and UBC (2-0-2) sit third and fourth respectively.

The Dinos will host Trinity Western on Oct. 6 and travel to Vancouver on Oct. 18 to take on UBC.
