Wildcats off to Grade 8 provincials after capturing district championship

The Anne Gillrie-Carre and Nathan Kishi coached squad capped a perfect three game run with a 48-33 victory over the Carson Graham Eagles in last Thursday's final. McMath opened the championships by cruising past Burnaby North 61-7, then outlasted North Vancouver's Handsworth Royals 40-36 in a battle of league champions.

The result earns the girls a berth into the Grade 8 Invitational Provincial Championships, hosted by Pitt Meadows secondary, March 8-10.

The team includes: Claire Reynolds, Julia Wilson, Jessica Jones, Jessica Folk, Mikayla Weissler, Justine McCaskill, Montana Leonard, Claire Siqueira, Jessica Zawada, Ellie Reid, Carmen Milne, Denise Su, Kyra Loat, Hannah Partridge, Stephanie Baron, Ali Burns, Kim German, Bonnie Leung, Delaney McBride and Jessica Tarnate.

The McRoberts Strikers also turned in a strong showing at the district tourney as the Richmond runners-up were edged 4645 by Carson Graham in the quarter-finals. The MacNeill Ravens fell 53-46 to West Vancouver in their opening game.
