Children will rejoice and parents might groan at having to find child-care options, but it’s officially a snow day in New Westminster today (Wedensday).

All New Westminster public schools are closed today as a result of severe weather conditions.

Weather alerts issued at 5:05 a.m. today noted snowfall of 10 to 15 centimetres are expected in New Westminster.

Superintendent Karim Hachlaf noted that student safety is a priority. “Given the poor road conditions, please do not attempt to travel – and be safe!” he said.

All Lower Mainland schools have been reported closed this morning.

Environment Canada (Weather Network) reported that rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

As well, the New West campus of Douglas College is also closed today.
