Friday, Sept. 6

RNB NIGHT
Tonye Aganaba opens for the R & B Allstars at the last Summer Concert Series show of the season for the city of Coquitlam. Bring your blanket, snacks and dancing shoes to boogie to the free entertainment, which starts at 7 p.m. at TD Community Plaza at Town Centre Park (east side of Lafarge Lake, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). ART OPENING
The Coquitlam Weavers and Spinners Guild join members of PhotoClub Vancouver and painter Sandra Yuen MacKay for the opening of their exhibits at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). CRUNCH CHALLENGE
How fast can you run up the Coquitlam Crunch? Put your endurance to the test in the 10th annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge for Diversity, a fundraiser sponsored in part by The Tri-City News. The Stair Master competition starts at 8 a.m. and will be followed at 9 a.m. by Make It or Break It, a contest to see how many times participants can walk/run up and down the stairs in four hours. USED SPORTS GEAR
KidSport Tri-Cities had its best spring sale ever in March, collecting more than $32,000 from the sale of used sporting gear to subsidize sports registration fees for families in need. Today, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the non-profit group will host its fall event at the Poirier Forum (618 Poirier St., Coquitlam). REPAIR CAFE
Take your broken furniture, bikes, jewlery and electronic gadgets to the third Repair Café at the Port Coquitlam public works yard (1737 Broadway St.) where volunteers will help you fix your wares — for free — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/repaircafe. READING MEDALS
Coquitlam kids who signed up for the Summer Reading Club at Coquitlam Public Library — and completed their assignments — can collect their medals at one of two ceremonies in the Nancy Bennett Room at the Poirier branch (575 Poirier St., Coquitlam): 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. Visit coqlibrary.ca.

MOON FEST

CHILD SEATS
Concern about improper installation of child safety seats has prompted police to hold an education and enforcement event in collaboration with ICBC. From 1 to 5 p.m., in the parking lot near the water park at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam), parents can get advice from child passenger safety technicians and Mounties. DOG ART
Bring Fido to Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) for the annual pARTy@PdA: PAWcasso! Dogs must be on a leash and up to date with vaccinations to participate in the event that runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $26 per person and pooch, or $42 for two people and their pets. LANTERN MAKING
Instructor Kim Dinh of the Vietnam Society of Canada will be at Mackin House (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) to show visitors how to make a lantern during the mid-autumn festivities. POCO CRAFT BEER
Sample the suds by Port Coquitlam brewers — and cidery — at the inaugural Brew-HaHa, a fundraiser for PoCo Heritage, which needs a climate-controlled storage space to preserve the city’s historical collections. The fest featuring beverages from Northpaw, Taylight, Patina, Tinhouse and West Coast Cider is from 3 to 7 p.m. at Leigh Square (2253 Leigh Square Pl., beside PoCo city hall). MENTAL HEALTH

PAWS FOR A CAUSE
Put your pooch on a leash and take a walk around Lafarge Lake to support the BC SPCA Tri-Cities branch as it hosts its annual Paws for a Cause, at noon at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The education and adoption centre has set a $30,000 goal from the 1-km walk. The registration fee is $20/$10. Yellow Dog Brewing will serve up its craft beer. Gabi & Jules Bakery owners Patrick and Lisa Beecroft want to raise $20,000 to sponsor and name a litter of PADS puppies.
