• And They Faded into the Landscape – An important figure in Canadian art and printmaking, North Vancouver artist Arnold Shives exhibits seven large-scale mixed media paintings in his most recent exhibition. Shives disrupts his landscapes by playing with spatiality; interspersed with mountains, trees and water are abstract shapes and lines. These graphic elements are informed by Shives’s printmaking practice, as are the textures and areas of relief on the paintings. At times shapes frame or obscure the landscape, other times lines float on the surface of the paintings. They also serve as a reference to topography, leading us like a trail through a forest, offering us multiple perspectives of the landscape simultaneously. Exhibition runs until Nov. 3.

• Winter Gift Gallery – Once again, a wonderful group of artists have been assembled to help inspire your holiday shopping. Buy from local artists and help support the arts in your community during the Winter Gift Gallery, Nov. 13 to Dec. 23. From scarves to paintings, jewelry to pottery, find your holiday gifts here – along with the perfect card to place on top! Meet the artists and enjoy homemade holiday baking during a reception on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2-4 p.m.

• Volunteers are needed to open the gallery and gift shop during theatre performance intermissions. Volunteers see the show free.

DEEP COVE SHAW THEATRE

• Rebel Women– To mark this year’s centennial anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement, Deep Cove Stage presents this drama by Dr. Joan Bryans. In early 20th century Britain the front line of the militant suffragettes contained a motley bunch of women. They were called to battle by a diminutive, delicate lady, as battle-scarred and hardened as any soldier. Join these and their fellow rebels as they are swept up in the maelstrom that will alter their lives forever, cause governments to fall, and shape democracy for us all. Rebel Women is a theatre verbatim play: the women’s actual words and songs, which are insightful, sometimes hilarious and always searingly truthful, are used to create the play. Rebel Women runs Oct. 12-27. Tickets and information: deepcovestage.com or 604-929-3200.

• Ring of Fire– the music of Johnny Cash. The ultimate celebration of the iconic Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire tells the story of finding love, success, faith and redemption. Performed by a multi-talented, multi-instrumental cast, this First Impressions Theatre production includes all of Cash’s classic hits: I Walk the Line, A Boy Named Sue, Folsom Prison Blues and many more! Ring of Fire is a powerful tribute to the Man in Black and an endlessly entertaining journey that will leave you cheering for more. Ring of Fire runs Nov. 15 to Dec. 1.
