Staying safe and keeping well has been the enduring message regarding the social distancing measures employed to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

And now, as the number of cases for infection and hospitalization begins to decrease around the province and phase 2 has been implemented, Royal City Health & Manual Therapy’s proactive planning has ensured they didn’t miss even one day in welcoming their clients back into the clinic.

Since being closed to appointments after March 17, Royal City Health & Manual Therapy remained in regular contact with patients to monitor their conditions.

“It has been hard on our patients,” says Managing Partner and Registered Massage Therapist Jeanie Bezdan. “They were left to deal with their pain without hands-on therapy, and we have been especially concerned about those with acute conditions and migraines.

“We reached out to them regularly and kept staff on at the clinic full-time to answer their calls and questions.”

Part of that “remote care” has included help from the clinic’s physiotherapists, clinical counsellor and dietitian through TeleHealth.

“Although we have now re-opened, we will continue to send out self-help videos created by our RMTs for the next few weeks,” Bezdan says. “Those videos target a different area of the body each week, with demonstrations on how to release tension in specific muscle groups. Also included are tips on strength and stretch exercises they can do at home.”

In anticipation of regulations on social distancing easing, Royal City Health & Manual Therapy completed a detailed plan to re-open the clinic and submitted it to the PHO on May 1. That plan includes specific protocols to ensure the health and safety of both clients and staff while they are at the clinic.

“We must maintain as much physical distancing as possible, so there will be fewer appointments booked in one day, and they will be staggered to avoid crowding in the waiting room,” Bezdan explains.

“There will also be fewer staff on shift at any given time, sanitization stations throughout the clinic, mandatory face masks, and more.”
