While their personal styles may differ, their shared passion for interior design does not. Aleem Kassam and Phyllis Lui of Kalu Interiors have been collaborating and breaking barriers in the design industry for over a decade. Their recent project, Chateau Ridge, is up for multiple awards and features this decadent dining room.

“Both Phyllis and I are creatures of habit, and if you know us, you know we add a glamourous touch to any space, or outfit for that matter. The crowning jewel of this dining room is the brilliant chandelier. Glamorous, but not over the top, it is appropriately scaled and tastefully treated in a soft brass hue with elegant dripping crystal, tiered to perfection, Kassam said. At Kalu, we like to think of lighting as the jewelry of the room, and this space is all dressed up!”

“This project came to us from Sandy Gill of Quantus Luxury Homes. When your client is also the builder, it is a direct to the source project. Our joint goal for the design was to blend old-world elegance with modern-day sophistication. Situated atop the mountains of Anmore, British Columbia, Chateau Ridge transports you to the French Alps, while overlooking the beautiful wilderness of British Columbia,” said Kassam.

“To us, this dining room encapsulates the beauty of modern life, while pursuing the boundaries of luxury in design, architecture and craftsmanship. With soaring ceilings, beautifully crafted trim-work, and expansive windows that allow a flow of light, this space transforms from daily living to full-fledged entertaining.

One of the biggest mistakes people make in any space, is not bringing enough of the outdoors in. Nestled in the mountains of Anmore, we needed to ensure we connected the design to the surrounding landscape. Green additions bring texture, layer, and colour to an otherwise quite neutral space. This offers a subtle way to bring life into the dining room, even if it’s empty. We chose surprisingly convincing, but artificial, greens. But let’s keep that our little secret!”

Chateau Ridge was nominated for two HAVAN Awards for Housing Excellence.
