Delta received some provincial funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Funds just before the election was called Monday.

The government announced that up to $3.4 million in CEPF money will be handed out to local, regional, and Indigenous governments, while an additional $14.5 million will be allocated to new project intakes over the next several months.

The CEPF is a suite of programs designed to enhance the resiliency of local governments to be prepared for the threat of emergencies

The CEPF includes a cultural safety and cultural humility stream, which provides eligible applicants money for emergency management personnel to have training to more effectively partner with and assist Indigenous communities during times of emergency.

It includes opportunities to educate personnel, emergency management professionals and others working in the emergency management system on the history of Indigenous peoples as well as the concepts of cultural safety, cultural humility and its importance to Indigenous peoples.

Delta received $25,000 for a cultural safety and cultural humility training project for its emergency services.

The city was one of 21 communities to receive a grant.

Delta could be in line for more money as the province notes for future intakes of the CEPF over the next several months, the allocation of the remainder of the available funding will go toward structural flood mitigation, flood risk assessments, mapping and mitigation planning, emergency support services training and upgrades as well as emergency operations centres and training.
