There should be consequences for their actions

I have lived in Ladner off-and-on since 1989 and I have never seen this type of vandalism and blatant disregard of property.

All you have to do is get out of your editor’s chair and drive around Ladner to see the destruction. A home owner’s fence was destroyed by Hawthorne Elementary school, graphic language graffiti is all over the Marina Gardens area and garbage cans were strewn all over 57th St. No sign of any police patrolling the streets, but I imagine that they were running from call-to-call the entire night.

The blame clearly rests with the students who engage in these unlawful acts.

The money that the Delta School District spent to clean everything up comes out of their tight budget, which means program cuts. Insurance deductibles come out of homeowner’s pockets.

I do agree that Hell Night is a rite of passage for some youth, but there needs to be accountability for their actions. I suggest that when these same students come knocking on our doors for donations to their dry grad party that we give them a paint brush instead of any money. It’s a phenomena called consequences.
