The Easter Bunny is coming and you really want to surprise your kids with something more than the usual stale grocery-store chocolate.

Michelle Di Tomaso of Bella Gift Baskets in Vancouver has just the answer. Di Tomaso has been coming up with amazing personalized gift baskets for nearly two decades. Her advice on creating custom Easter Baskets for kids?

1.Think outside the … basket! Use something other than the conventional basket. Sand-pails, storage bins, dump trucks and toy boxes make a great alternative and serve as a something useful afterwards.

2. Personalizing is key.  Make your little one feel as though the Easter Bunny made this especially for them. Include their name in or on whatever you choose for a basket. You can use a tag tied on with a ribbon or decorative shoestrings.

Incorporate colours your children like or ones that will match their bedroom or playroom. And use the baskets afterwards to store, books, or small toys.

3. Get creative with the goodies. Visit one of Vancouver’s chocolatiers and check out their Easter twists. From chocolate-apple bunnies to beautiful Easter-inspired sculptures, many are brilliantly creative. Di Tomaso compares buying good quality chocolate creations to buying a piece of art.

4. Pick a theme they really like, i.e. arts and crafts, a tea party, a particular sport, gardening or “beach party”. Include something that they are really into right now, like Lego, puzzles, a doll, hockey cards or a toy car. Choose something they can play with and think: “How the heck did the Easter Bunny know I loved these things?” Items could include a plastic placemat and cups, plates, utensils in their favorite superhero or Disney character or arts and craft supplies.

“Start thinking outside the box,” says Di Tomaso. “Look for things that your child loves at the moment and go from there.”
