Impaired cases up again say DPD

Delta police are once again reporting an increase in impaired driving cases this week.

Last week DPD highlighted some “lowlights” for its weekly Immediate Roadside Prohibition update in the hopes that the numbers would go down, but that was not the case, as DPD removed 15 impaired drivers from Delta roads this week.

“There is no excuse to get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you've been drinking or doing drugs – no excuse,” said DPD in a notice on its Facebook page. “We have taxis in Delta, public transit, your feet, heck, download the Uber app and all you have to do is click one button...that is far less steps than it takes to turn your car on, attempt to drive it home impaired, get pulled over and hear a breath demand.”

DPD say refusing to blow is the same penalty as if you blew over the legal limit – a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, 30-day impound of your vehicle, cost of impound, towing fees, administrative fee, and a licence re-instatement fee.

DPD confirmed that 47 per cent of the drivers this week were in fact Delta residents.
