STYLISH LUNCH: Fashion met cause at Hope Couture, a benefit for the BC Cancer Foundation. In a very short time, the fashion show and auction has quickly become a leading date on Vanhattan’s social calendar. Raising $2 million in two years for leading cancer research, the event drew another 350 guests to the third staging, held at the Fairmont Pacific Rim ballroom. Event presenter CDN Jade Mine Resources’ president Shao Long Li, along with BC Cancer Foundation CEO Sarah Roth and party chair David Zacks, welcomed a well-heeled crowd of tastemakers, fashionistas and business leaders to the runway romp in support of lymphoma research. An incredible $900,000 was generated from the afternoon’s festivities, which included a fashion show, auction and generous gift of $500,000 from Samuel and Frances Belzberg.

FINE DINING: Dinner by Design returned for its fourth staging. Produced by party planners the Social Concierge, the stylish affair saw more than a dozen tablescapes and dining rooms created by Vancouver’s top interior designers serve as the backdrop to the city’s largest and swankiest cocktail party. Participating design firms included Ryleah Resler for Kabuni, Emily Lee Designs and Filosophi Event Design. More than 800 design enthusiasts gathered at the Plaza of Nations Harbour Event Centre for the lavish luau that took place over two nights. Opening night saw Vancouver’s top mixologists serving up designer cocktails at the cocktail party as guests admired the glamourous tableaus. Day two saw a lucky few sit down at the designer tables for a catered Cocktails and Canape dinner in support of scholarships at Visual College of Art and Design of Vancouver.

DESIGNERS FETED: Western Living’s annual Designers of the Year awards celebrates the best designers in Western Canada, as judged by the industry’s foremost designers and architects. Presented by Crate & Barrel, this year’s staging took place at North Vancouver’s Pipe Shop. Editor-in-chief Anicka Quin handed out trophies for excellence in architecture (Design Built), interior design (Douglas Cridland), fashion (Gaby Bayona), furniture (Steven Pollock) and industrial design (Matthew McCormick). Architect Michael Lecki received the Arthur Erickson Memorial Award, while the duo of Chad Falkenberg and Kelly Reynolds was cited the Robert Ledingham Memorial Award.
