FortisBC has issued an update on its project upgrading the gas lines from Burnaby to Coquitlam.
Lougheed Highway is expected to reopen for traffic between Bainbridge and Kensington avenues this weekend, weather dependent. Most of the work on Lougheed Highway is now complete. All lanes are also expected to reopen at the Madison Avenue intersection on Tuesday, April 16, weather dependent.
In Coquitlam, Como Lake Avenue is expected to reopen for traffic at the North Road intersection on Monday, April 15, and between Blue Mountain and MacIntosh streets on Wednesday, April 17, weather dependent.
“Our crews will return to Lougheed Highway at the Bainbridge and Springer intersections later this year to connect the new natural gas line to our existing system,” said a news release. “We’ll start work installing a bridge for our gas line to cross over Stoney Creek in Burnaby next Monday, April 15. We are crossing Stoney Creek near the Broadway overpass using a purpose-built bridge, as it will have the least impact on the local environment.”
There will be lane closures on Broadway between North Road and Gaglardi Way, with an eastbound and westbound lane kept open. There will also be intermittent closures of the Stoney Creek trail to pedestrians and cyclists, when our crews are working above it.
- Work at the Broadway-Arden Avenue intersection starts on Tuesday, April 16. There will be lane closures, with one northbound and one southbound lane kept open.
- FortisBC has started tunnelling underneath the Broadway-Production Way intersection. This work means lane shifts on Broadway east of the intersection, but east/west and north/south lanes will be kept open.
A detour for westbound traffic on Como Lake Avenue, between Blue Mountain and Schoolhouse streets, has started. Local, bus and emergency access is being maintained. The detour will give crews the space they need to work safely and as quickly as possible, with construction now underway between Porter and Gatensbury streets.
