Students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) will have access to $200,000 of emergency COVID-19 funding as of the end of the month.

The Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) donated $100,000, which was matched by the university.

Starting March 30, students registers for the Spring 2020 term can apply to receive up to $250 of the funding.

“The KSA always strives to represent its students, and we hope that with this donation, we can give students financial assistance to reduce financial hardships they might face due to COVD-19,” said the student association’s president, David Piraquive, in a statement.

KPU’s president and vice-chancellor Dr. Alan Davis said the university is “deeply grateful” for the donation and “proud” to match it.

“During these unprecedented times, many people will face financial hardships and this includes KPU students,” said Davis.

“Our collective efforts will help our students financially as they try to navigate the current situation.”

For students who require more emergency funding, there are other grants and bursaries available to students who meet specific criteria. Information about this financial aid is available at https://www.kpu.ca/awards.
