The Edwardian mansion known as Hycroft has been a fixture in Shaughnessy for more than 100 years.

The Edwardian mansion known as Hycroft has been a fixture in Shaughnessy for more than 100 years. Built between 1909 and 1911 for businessman and politician Alexander Duncan McRae, Hycroft became a hot spot for visiting royalty and the city's upper crust during the 1920s and '30s. The palatial estate served as a veteran's hospital during the 1940s and '50s and has been home to the University Womens Club since 1962. UWC Vancouver president Louise Corrall took the Courier on a tour of Hycroft and sang the praises of the women-only club, which she says is always looking for new members.
