An East Ladner cannabis greenhouse operation, Rubicon Organics, says it has commenced preparation for its European Union - Good Manufacturing Practices certification.  The EU-GMP certification is given to companies who demonstrate a high degree of precision and consistency in their manufacturing procedures, and is a requirement for the import of medical cannabis products into the European market.

The company says it’s working with consultants who have extensive experience across cannabis and international pharmaceutical industries, and the 104 Street facility recently completed a trial audit as the first step in ensuring the correct controls and compliance are in place for European sales.

"We expect access to EU-GMP certified organic cannabis will be a game changer for medical markets both locally and internationally," said Jesse McConnell, co-founder and CEO of Rubicon Organics, in a news release.

The company expects its first harvest at the 125,000-square-foot greenhouse in the second quarter of this year.

The company last summer noted the retrofitted greenhouse is capable of producing 11,000 kilograms of cannabis flower per year, while an expansion plan will increase production to 67,000 kilograms per year by 2020.
