North Vancouver RCMP is warning the public after a man exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl in Upper Lonsdale on May 15. And police say, it’s not the first such incident in recent months.

According to police, a man driving a silver SUV approached a 13-year-old girl on the 200 block of West 27th Street around 3:40 p.m. He called the teen over to the vehicle, pretending he was in need of directions.

“When she approached, he made a lewd comment and exposed his genitals. The young female ran away and was not physically harmed,” a release from the RCMP stated.

Police describe the suspect as a white male, between 40 and 50 years old. He is balding with brown hair on the sides of his head and he has a double chin. He spoke with a slight accent, although the victim could not place its origin.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing black sunglasses and blue and white sweater.

Police released a composite sketch of the suspect on Wednesday afternoon in hopes someone would recognize the man and call police.

This incident bears a resemblance to similar reports on the North Shore in the past year, which police are investigating for possible links, but for now, they are treating them as separate.

“We want parents and children to take extra precautions until we can track this man down, said Sgt. Peter DeVries, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “It’s a reminder for parents to talk with their kids about how to increase their safety in public.”

Anyone with information about the incident or who recognizes the suspect, is asked to call Const. Aaron Land at 604-969-7510.
