Bowie Ball rolls into Rickshaw Theatre

And four other reasons Vancouver is awesome this week

Celebrate the life, career and music of the one and only David Bowie at the annual Bowie Ball. Watch 17 diverse bands grace the Rickshaw Theatre stage in quick succession to have you putting on your red shoes to dance the blues all night. There will be a costume contest, a face-painter, art sale, merch and plenty of Bowie-related fun.

Gluten-Free Expo Vancouver

Canada's largest gluten-free expo hits the West Coast this month, featuring exhibitors, vendors, panel talks, workshops and more. Sample, shop and save on hundreds of gluten-free products, such as pizza, beer and breads, while learning from leading experts.

When: Jan. 11-12,10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This seventh annual noodle tasting extravaganza is presented by Vancouver Foodster and Tasting Plates. Each restaurant will be serving up tasting bowls or plates for guests to enjoy. Participants will have a chance to visit many different types of restaurants throughout the event, meet new food loving friends, meet the chefs and learn about each of the participating restaurants. Get a taste of all sorts of noodles from chow mein to spaghetti to pho, pad thai, ramen and more.

When: Jan. 15, 6 to 10 p.m.

Sunday Night Movie Series at Bells and Whistles

The Fraserhood hangout and beer hall continues to give cinephiles a front-row seat to classic flicks every Sunday at 9 p.m. during its Sunday Night Movie Series. This week it’s the 1999 sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest. During each screening, guests can also take advantage of happy hour specials on food and drinks from 10 p.m. to close
