Well-known across China, Canadian pianist Martin Mayer is scheduled to perform some of China’s most popular songs at Aberdeen Centre’s Showcase Pianos.
On Sept. 22, Mayer will perform original music, world-famous songs and popular Chinese hits at Aberdeen Centre as part of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
“The music of Martin Mayer is so inspiring – he truly is a talented musician,” said Showcase Pianos founder and president Manuel Bernasheck in a press release. “Our stores have many Chinese clients, and we find that his performances are an excellent way for us to connect with our multicultural community.”
Mayer, who took out a $35,000 loan in 1998 for his debut concert, was discovered by a Chinese performing arts agency, leading to sold-out national concerts in China. Mayer then became the first Canadian artist to tour over 16 cities in mainland China.
“On my tours of China over the last 17 years, I’ve had the pleasure to discover some of the most beautiful melodies that country’s artists have written,” said Mayer in a press release.
“The pure joy on my Chinese audience’s faces when I play songs that they remember from childhood, school, opera or the radio is an incredible feeling.”
The Sept. 22 concert begins at 7 p.m. at Showcase Pianos in Aberdeen Centre. Tickets are available for $20 for adults and $10 for students at www.martinmayermusic.com.
