This chorale carol showdown on Vancouver streets is a must-experience event. If you missed it last Christmas, be sure to come (all ye faithful) this time around. It’s the most wonderful time of year, right? Dozens of local choirs and singing groups go head to head in a sing-off fundraiser benefiting May’s Place. Fans can cheer on their favourites, while a panel of judges cast their votes for their picks for the best of the angelic voices.

When: Dec. 5, 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Festivale Tropicale at Bloedel Conservatory

Vancouver’s iconic Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park marks a milestone birthday this year as they hit the big 5-0. As part of ongoing celebrations, Bloedel Conservatory hosts Festivale Tropicale, a holiday season event that promises fun for all ages. You’ll find 150 free flying exotic birds, magical lights, colourful plant displays, festive music, a scavenger hunt and more.

When: Dec. 7 to Jan. 5, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Free Christmas Movies on Cineplex Community Day

For this year’s Community Day, Cineplex has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures Canada to offer a lineup of favourite holiday flicks Dec. 7 for movie-lovers of all ages, including A Christmas Story, Elf, The Polar Express and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. No tickets are required for this annual fundraiser — doors open at 9 a.m. at all participating Cineplex theatres and seats are available on a first come, first serve basis.

When: Dec. 7. Doors at 9 a.m. All screenings begin at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Cineplex Marine Gateway, Cineplex Odeon International Village and Scotiabank Theatre plus other Cineplex locations in Metro Vancouver and B.C.
