Updated: crews on scene restoring power on Bowen, ferry sailings resume

A storm knocked out power to much of the island Sunday evening. Ferry cancellations meant that BC Hydro trucks didn't make it to the island until Monday morning.

The Queen of Capilano is back to business as usual after cancellations between 7:30 p.m. Sunday night and 9 a.m. Monday morning.

With the ferry's return to service, BC Hydro crews made it to Bowen and are on scene, trying to restore power to the more than 1,600 homes that lost power overnight.

Trees fell on powerlines at Millers Road at Seven Hills, 292 Smugglers Cove Road and at 1823 Finisterre Road, closing the roads. Crews are on scene repairing the damage.

In the meantime, the municipal hall is open for people to warm up and charge their devices.
