Creedence Clearwater Revival founder John Fogerty will return to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre — the site of several triumphs — for a concert this summer.

Fogerty, 78, will perform Aug. 23 at the Blanshard Street arena with opening act Hearty Har, the Los Angeles rock band fronted by his sons, Shane and Tyler Fogerty. During previous visits, his sons were also members of Fogerty’s backing group.

The native of Berkeley, California knows the area well, having played the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre several times since his 2007 debut. The rock ‘n’ roller behind the hits Born on the Bayou, Green River, and Fortunate Son remains a big draw in Victoria, and often posts audience totals upwards of 5,000 per show. At this point, the Victoria date is just one of two Canadian stops on his itinerary.

He’ll be playing hits from his entire catalogue — solo singles and CCR gems included — and given that the event takes place on a Friday night, fans should expect demand to remain high.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre (250-220-7777) or sofmc.com and livenation.com.
